Ashford in Kent is located a little over 15 miles outside of the port town of Folkestone, close to the Dover coast. Originally a market town with roots all the way back to the 13th century, regular markets are still held there to this day. More recently, however, the region has seen phenomenal growth as a transport and communications hub, thanks to its international railway that links with the port at Folkestone, as well as the Channel tunnel. The nearby M20 motorway, which runs into London and Canterbury, is accessed via the A28 across the Kent Downs. This hub also attracts a steady flow of visitors to its large designer outlet, which boasts over 80 leading retail brands. Located just outside of the town centre, it provides plenty of parking, undercover shopping and refreshment areas. The centre of town is home to a First World War tank, which was presented to Ashford some years after the end of the conflict.
